The Malaysian Rojak

Tapi memang kuah rojak ni sedap...terbakar mulut i makan!! :0)

If u wanna explain what a rojak is, it can be explained as small cut fruits coated with a special malaysian fruit sauce (usually it is hot n somehow sweet) and sprinkled with blended peanut. Usually u have


yam bean-sengkuang
Cucumber
Guava (Jambu Batu)


Jambu Air
Pineapple


and my favourite- still very young, very green Mango


My sister managed to send me the Kuah rojak with the guests who came to our house a month ago. Of course, it will be nice to have all those fruits (sengkuang n cucumber-r they fruits?) together with the kuah rojak.. for me, it will be heavenly..in fact, i prefer just kuah rojak n mango...even as i am writing this now, terliur sendiri sendiri hehehe

Instead of all those fruits, i could only come up with this...

Yup..my version of rojak in istanbul..sliced green apples (granny smith apple), cucumber and carrot!!! hahahahahahah i looked for a mango in migros (a supermarket) but the ones they have there were like..sooooooo unappetising..i decided against buying it . i have been trying to drag halil to carrefour for almost a month now.. they sell mango n pineapple there...all to no avail. The rojak sauce will expire in a week or two.. i suppose i will just have to delete the thoughts of mango n pineapple in my rojak..and just settle for cucumber n carrot instead.. hehehhe..that's pathetic simah really pathetic heheheheheh

The mango picture reminded me of halil's story. It was the after the first time we met. Halil was flying back to istanbul but he had to transit in bangkok for i think 12 hours or perhaps more. Hence, he decided to take a city tour in bangkok to pass the time. Do u know what he did during the tour?? he slept!! Anyway, back to the mango story. It was noon n he was getting hungry. Not confident that the food in bangkok was halal, he decided against eating anything. It was then he saw a street seller selling manggo. Halil loves mango. So he bought it.. It was green n the guy sprinkled salt on top of the green mango. Halil tasted it n...yikessssssss.. let us just say that the mango met its demise inside the rubbish bin!! heheheh it never crossed his mind that people eat mango while they r unripe. His idea of mango was the yellow, sweet juicy mango.. I personally prefer the green mango..see the difference in culture?? U can bet it was an experience halil did not forget...eating green mango! :0)

Simah, kat sini pun kami makan kuah rojak dgn granny smith apple :) Sengkuang tak ada ke kat sana? Yes, you cannot call it a fruit, tapi apa dia? I guess it is in the same family as beets and potatoes? It is called jicama, by the way.

Simah tahu ke buat kuah rojak sendiri (orang Kedah panggil 'garam belacan')?

Sedapnye Simah. I ni pun hantu rojak..... Pasembor pun ok juga.. Orang Kedah le kata kan... Kulim mari...:)

Kekadang tu Simah, I tumbuk cili merah sikit(kalau nak pedas lagi tambah cili padi sikit), letak gula & kicap. Lepas tu cicah le dgn mangga atau betik muda. Jambu merah pun boleh... mmmmmmmmm....

cek mana tau nama kampung kampung kat BM tu..cek cuma ingat jalan tu jalan ni..pusing kiri pusing kanan jalan ingat..kampung punya nama tarak tau..dulu memang selalu sangat pi kawasan tu...biasa la.. area kepala batas, bukit mertajam dengan kulim tu tempat meronda hehehe ntah ntah kita pernah terserempak atau kot kot la sapa sapa family kita kenal each other..fuyooo..just imagine..

Rojak..rojak..memang feberet cik Abang. Maklang kalau kuah rojak ni buat sendiri. Campuran petis, lada kering and gula and air. Kacau rata2 and masak atas api kecik! Cubalah kalau jumpa petis kat sana. Sukatan tu kena agak, kalau nak pedas tamabh lada and so on...

Rojak, garam belacan, pasembor...orang kedah...kita orang kedah jugak...tunjang, kodiang jitra mari...
Awatlah simah tak habaq...selera orang kedah atau utara nih memang ler sama...shami kalu kuah rojak tu selalu tambah sos cili kimbal + kicap + garam + kacang tanah tumbuk (siap goreng) + bijan (lenga ) sikit baru kau, buah kekadang tu, mera (kedondong), lain2 tu simah dah sebut kan...he..he
Kat dapur ada lagi kuah rojak..he..he..he cap adabi,...
tengok buah mangga tu teliur sungguh..haih...
Garam belacan tu selalu husb yang buat, dia pun sama macam kita jugak..hi..hi..

yummmy....green mango...kak lady memang suka mangga hijau...tapi sekarang bila dah berumur gigi ni dah ngilu...tak tahan ...makan sehiris pun dah rasa ngilu...

Tapi rojak buah tu ...emmm...memang sedap...

haaiii..terliur lagi, kuah rojak tu boleh lawan kuah rojak mak bee tak? ke lagi sedap..balik penang nanti nak kena cari.

pernah makan tak sengkuang potong nipis, sapu dengan kuah rojak warna merah (tak pedas sgt) then tabur dengan kacang goreng tumbuk..sedap gilerr.kalau kat alor setar i tau cari kat market tapi kat putrajaya susahla sikit..

Ooooo Sherin orang Kulim ka? My brother, bro-in-law, aunty pun ada dok sana :) My 'kampung' is Aloq Starq. Yang Sherin bagi instructions tu lah kuah garam belacan tu. Kesian Simah, "toyu" pun tak ada ke kat sana?

Kuah yang Traveler sebut tu kuah rojak Cina .... aiyoooo lama dah tak makan yang tu. Terlioq ni ....

kuah rojak cina ke..?tau makan je, tapi sedap giler sambil makan ice kacang with ice cream topping..

tumpang lalu simah, Queen bila balik Aloq Staq pi la cari,

i notice org kedah (lelaki pun sama) suka makan asam / rojak

cermai tumbuk dengan cili kering +belacan +gula +garam = meleleh air liur :-)

Trav ... adoilah 'singke' gigi dok imagine cermai tu ... orang panggil pincuk ke apa ntah. Tak tahan, masam sangat. Tapi memang la sedap. Hmmmm, ni buat I teringat zaman kanak-kanak dulu, ikat kain kat leher and tahan bawah pokok cermai while my aunts and uncles goyang pokok tu. Habis berterabur buah cermai jatuh. Yang masuk dalam kain, yang jatuh atas tanah dan yang 'timpa' kepala, hehehe!

buat jeruk pun sedap, rendam dengan garan dan gula, toskan, gaul dgn gula- simpan dlm fridge- after few days makan..dah rasa kat dlm mulut dah ni..

i memang pernah mkn kuah rojak cina tu tapi sebab tak pedas tak berapa minat sangat..i ni lebih suka yg pedas dan masam..

i pun dah lama tak makan pincuk..memang rasa dia piaw gila..eh cermai orang ada jual ker kat pasar malam?
