Will You Marry Me??
There she was...at the age of 18...working in the city..living in the city. One day, the postman came with a telegram..it was stated there, "your great grandma died.Come home ASAP!".She packed her things at the speed of light and headed to the bus station to go back to the village.
Her home was full with people..Oh yeah..right..the house should be full since there was death there... instead of forlorn and weeping people, she saw people with cheerful faces!! Are these people nuts? Why were they so happy?? Someone just died and there they were gleefully laughing and chatting..Suspicions seeped thru her mind..
Well..well...what do u know...Very soon after that she was told that..the content of the telegram was fake. The great grandma was totally alive..in fact, she lived till she was over at least 120 years old when i was 15!! And all those people were there at her home because....She was getting married!! She threw tantrums..refused to get married...but relented in the end..And oh yeah....that is the story of how my mom and dad got married!!
There was no..going down on bended knees and asking the girl*will u marry me*..The girl did not even know that she would get married until the day she was to be a wife! Funny how people set up marriages in the old days huh?
My mom and dad..they are basically related. Not so close but related somewhere in the family line. I dont know the whole story anyway..i dont even know how my dad got to know my mom....so dearest family in malaysia, please correct me if my info is wrong...but from what i remember, my dad had 2 candidates for a wife.. my mom and a girl named mimi loma. He showed both girls' pictures to her mom and asked her to choose one of them( refraining their details as not to influence her choice),and she chose..who else? My mom of course!! They got married...made 6 children altogether and their children gave them grandchildren (8 grandchildren so far...the other 3 children are unmarried).
Just think...if my grandma didnt choose my mom, my dad would marry someone else...my mom would marry someone else too. I wouldnt have my dad as a dad..or i may not be here at all if fate decides so...Thanks grandma for choosing my mom!!
