Hatice n Schooling
She could not believe her ears when i told her yesterday morning that we were going to look around the school we may be sending her next school season..(after summer this year). She has been waiting for this moment for as long as i remember..i think for at least 2 years, she had been dreaming of going to school..
Hatice was born in 2001. For her age, we have 2 options..1. We can send her to kindergarden (yuva) where over there she will basically play and probably learn something (less systematic). or 2. We can send her to pre-school (anasınıfı)where learning is more towards the preparation of entering the first grade in the primary school (ilköğretim) -more systematic and structured..
We are thinking of the second option.Hatice being a Zaim n all..the kids in the family go to Coskun Eğitim Kurumları (Coskun Chain of Schools). Safa and Zeynep go to the one in çamlıca while Keremcan goes to the one in Maltepe. I personally prefer the çamlıca one (the view is magnificent there..fresh air..but far).. we wanted to keep our options open...So yesterday, we went to the one nearest to us (maltepe one) to see the options we have..to check out their pre-school (anaokulu) programme.
We found out that the Çamlıca one has no pre-school within the school area. They have moved the Çamlıca coşkun anaokulu to another place...not within the çamlıca Primary school itself. The other option..the maltepe one has the anasınıfı withın the primary school compound .After weighing the pros and cons...and after asking hatice herself...most likely, we will send her there...
It was only yesterday, while we were talking to the people in the maltepe one that i realised...my daughter is growing up.Up to that point...i see her as my little girl. And there we were...yesterday..scouting n analysing the options..i realised...the next time i really look at her...she will no longer be that little girl..she will be a teenager...(though thru a mom's eyes..she will always be my little girl)..
There she was..totally excited...but trying her very best not to show it..and there was baddin too..kept saying *i like the school..i wanna go to this school too*..and we having to tell him..*u will have to wait till the next year for ur time*....
ı wonder how baddin will cope without her *abla* not around at home for one year till he himself starts anasınıf? I bet he will miss her a lot...He has never been without his sister..They are always together....doing things within each other's presence..and hatice... i wonder how she will cope..over there..she will learn 8 hours of english a week....computer..etc...etc...She will go to school using the bus service (most definitely the same bus as keremcan)..her classes will start like the normal school ones from 8.30 am till 4pm..will my daughter be able to endure this type of life? i suppose she has to...coz once she enters the ilkögretim level ..the pace will be much heavier..more things to learn..she better be prepared for that..
Hatice is excited..n so r we..just imagine... my daughter is starting school..
In turkey, the primary school education (ilköğretim) is for 8 years and the Secondary school education (lise) is for 4 years.Then..university...
This 1st june, there will be an interview for hatice at the maltepe Coskun..and after that we will register her there..I pray that we have made the write decision...As for now....we have one very happy n excited daughter.....i think that is a good start..dont u agree?? Please pray that her transation into school life will be smooth..
i will try to snap some photos the next time we go there...
P.s-each coşkun school has swimming pool :0))

Simah, what an exciting time when your child starts school. For me that was ages ago :) but next year, my youngest will start Darjah 1 (after being in Playschool and Kindy for 4 years). Mak dia yang excited lebih.
Mind if I hang around your blogs? The recipes look so yummy.
wahh..new beginning for both of u..
Ah the decisions on schools for your children. Isn't it so hard? We had a tough time deciding whether to send our daughter to the performing arts school.
My daughter was also born in 2001 and will be starting school this year. She was in pre-k this year though, so she already knows a lot.
I'm sure you will make the right decision for your daughter. Like you said, before we know it they will be teenagers and married and having kids of their own! Yikes!
